Installation, configuration and use OpenVPN on Mac OS X

OpenVPN is an open source implementation of a VPN gateway.

To connect to VPN on a Mac OS X computer, you will have to download Tunnelblick, a free OpenVPN client for Mac OS X.
You will also have to download and prepare your Tunnelblick configuration file.

Step 1: Install Tunnelblick
Download Tunnelblick. Double-click on the Tunnelblick icon to begin installation.
WARNING! Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) users must use the latest BETA version.

Click Open when prompted to confirm that you want to install this application.

Step 2: Create configuration file
a. Open Finder and create a new folder.
b. Download the configuration file (from required location). This file will be named [yourconfigfilename].ovpn
c. Move the downloaded file into the folder you created.
d. Rename the folder to [yourfoldername].tblk
(when prompted, click Add to add the extension .tblk)

Note: you have to rename the folder after moving the downloaded .ovpn file into it. Do not rename the downloaded .ovpn file.

The renamed folder, with extension .tblk is your Tunnelblick configuration file

Step3: Install VPN configuration
Double-click on the Tunnelblick configuration file you had created, named [yourfoldername].tblk.

Select whether you want to install this configuration just for you or all users on your Mac OS X computer. When in doubt, choose Only Me.

Connecting and disconnecting:

The Tunnelblick icon will appear on the far right of your top toolbar.

Click and select Connect [VPN Name] to connect.

To disconnect, click on the Tunnelblick icon and select Disconnect [VPN Name]

View Tunnelblick logs:

When troubleshooting connection problems, you should provide logs.
To view Tunnelblick logs, click on the Tunneblick icon and select VPN Details.

In the dialog that appears, click on the Log tab (in the Configurations tab) to view and copy the diagnostic info to clipboard, then send to support  or administrator.
